A family story, carried forward since 1948.

Our story was built on a belief that still guides us today: a portrait should feel true to the people in it and become more meaningful with time. Today, Richard Marchisotto and Kevin Togher continue that tradition with a thoughtful approach to portraiture centered on family, connection, and finished artwork for the home.

where our story began

Our family's portrait studio story began in Brooklyn in 1948, when Anthony Marchisotto returned from serving in the South Pacific during World War II and opened Antoine Studios with two friends who shared his love of photography.

As their family grew, Anthony and his wife, Tad, moved to Long Island.

In 1964, they purchased Sherwood Studio in Hicksville from a photographer friend who was retiring - and that is when the Sherwood name became part of our family's story.

The name became Sherwood, but the belief underneath it remained the same:

A portrait should do more than show what someone looked like.
It should feel true to the person in it.

And the experience of creating it should feel personal, thoughtful, and carefully guided from start to finish.

That tradition of care has carried through generations - helping families feel comfortable, understood, and taken care of, long before and long after the portrait is created.

a standard passed down

Anthony was devoted to the craft of fine portraiture, earning the Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman degrees from the Professional Photographers of America - among the highest honors in the industry.

His son, Richard, grew up inside that standard.

From the age of twelve, Rich spent his Saturdays and summers at the studio alongside his parents, learning not only the craft of photography, but the care and responsibility behind it.

Lighting, expression, printing, how people felt in front of the camera - it all mattered.

Most of all, the finished portrait mattered.

Rich later earned his own Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman degrees, becoming one of the youngest photographers to receive those honors.

sherwood today

Today, Richard continues that tradition alongside Kevin Togher, who joined Sherwood in 1996 and, over nearly three decades, became a partner in carrying the studio forward.

Together, they bring Sherwood's history into the present with a warm, thoughtful approach to portraiture centered on family, connection, and finished artwork for the home.

The cameras have changed.
The way people see photographs has changed.
Families themselves have changed.
But the reason portraits matter has not changed.

We still believe a portrait should feel true to the people in it.
We still believe photographs are meant to be printed, displayed, and lived with.
And we still believe portraits become more meaningful with time.
